Hi!

I’m Nakeshia Nickerson, Author, Community Leader, Influencer, Rare Disease Advocate, Risk Taker and Believer in my calling to support all things family and children growth.

Welcome to my page!

Hey!

Meet
Nakeshia

I’m what you call a multi-hyphenate, someone who wears many hats and you know what, I love them ALL! Being an Author, Community Leader, Rare Disease Advocate, Influencer and Business Owner, all give me the opportunity to serve my purpose and passion in helping people – family and most dear to my heart: children. As Founder and Author of Tulvia Lane Book Series & Kids Growth Journal, I have created a space where children learn social and emotional intelligence along with positive life skills, coping, confidence and resilience. Equipping your child with a toolkit for life.

I’m a self-driven, book writing, risk taking, detail-loving achiever, who can be stubborn as heck sometimes, but you didn’t hear that from me. It’s my childhood, my experiences; my life that has shaped me is so many ways. I’ve learned the importance of resilience, courage, confidence and grit. It’s those very lessons I want to give back to others; to children as they grow and shape into adults. My “Why” is my commitment to this cause. My passion is the wellness and care of developing families.

Author Nickerson teams up with veteran illustrator Feldman in this beautifully illustrated, sensitive chapter book about losing a grandparent, the launch title in Nickerson’s Tulvia Lane series.

Ally is planning to spend lots of time with her beloved Gammie, whose illness has changed Ally’s schedule from spending every weekend with her grandmother to visiting Gammie with her mother every evening to help take care of her. The day after Ally has the best birthday ever, and tells Gammie about everything over the phone, Gammie dies, and Ally’s world is turned upside down.  Ally’s struggles with losing her grandmother don’t always depict her in the best light,…. when she loses her temper with her friends, including Kylie, after they try to do something nice for her.…readers dealing with loss recognize that even if they take their grief out on their friends, their friendships are fixable. The illustrations are colorful and poignant, showing both the joy and sadness the characters experience. The diversity of the characters—Ally is African-American, Kylie is white, and they have multiracial friends—is appealing, especially as the races are never explicitly mentioned in the text, making it clear that for Kylie, race isn’t a factor in friendship.

Beautiful images enhance this sympathetic story about friendship and loss.

Jackson Speaks is a captivating and appealing story about conquering difference. The powerful embedded strategies will support and transform the reader’s self-doubt to self-confidence.”

– Gloriane R. Smith, Literacy Program Manager

“Nickerson eloquently presents the reader with topics and events parent, students and educators encounter today, more than ever before in the educational setting. I am particularly impressed and thrilled about the importance placed on parents support of their child’s emotional needs throughout the story. As a school counselor, I will certainly use this book to guide small group lessons with students; discussing themes such as bullying, having a growth mindset, positive self-estem and relevance in their lives.”
